How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on RestfulRocker starts with one question: will this product work for the person who is shopping for it? For our accent chair guides, that means your room, the space around the chair and how you'll use it.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the room

A swivel chair, a barrel chair and an oversized reading chair fit different corners. A small apartment and a large living room ask for different sizes.

We check the width, depth, height and seat height the maker lists, so you can measure your space first. When your room limits the choice, we say what to measure.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at frame material, fabric type, cushion fill, swivel base type, whether an ottoman is included, how much assembly it needs and the warranty terms the maker lists.

MAXYOYO, VASAGLE, Yaheetech and Tiita describe their frames and fabrics in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read through what buyers report after using a chair. We look for patterns, like wobbly legs, squeaky swivel bases, thin cushions, fabric that pills or stains, and hard assembly.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A chair that's great for a reading nook may score lower in a guide written for a small apartment.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Many chairs come in several colors and sets with similar names, so we check each model name and code, note whether an order is one chair or a set, and only link new units.

When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every chair we cover.

We don't promise any chair's weight limit, durability or comfort. Follow the maker's assembly directions, and check the size, fabric and care instructions before you buy.

We make no health claims about seating or posture. When a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
